Best Time
The optimal
time for shark cage diving in Gansbaai, South Africa is during the winter
months, yet shark diving can also be undertaken during any season. Great White
shark safaris are possible all year round.
Best Time for Shark Diving in South Africa – Cape Town Cage Diving
If you‘ve
booked a helicopter scenic flight from Cape Town to Gansbaai, you might just be
able to spot Great Whites from lofty heights should luck be on your side. A lot
of the time in False Bay near Muizenberg, or Walker Bay near Hermanus, the
sharks can be seen swimming in close proximity to the surfers.
Surfers are
usually watched over and warned by shark spotters and thus attacks are very
rare. Should it be too late for a shark spotter to warn surfers and the Great
Whites are already dangerously close, surfers will alert each other and create
a large circle with their surfboards in order to distract the sharks.
Best Time for Shark Diving in South Africa
Whether
winter or summer in South Africa – shark diving’s biggest enemy is the weather.
All shark trips are subject to weather conditions and can only be confirmed the
day before the trip, as tides play an important role for our boat trip as well.
We will
usually call you the evening prior to your day tour, in order to confirm
whether or not the conditions are on our side. We hardly ever actually
encounter any problems, yet June is a rainy month in Cape Town and can result
in many a boat trip being cancelled due to rain, heavy winds or rough seas. There
is therefore, however, never any guarantee of a shark trip, as one can very
well experience all four seasons on a single day in Cape Town and its
surrounding areas.
Shark Cage Diving – should our tour be
cancelled, then.....
In the case
of a cancellation of your shark adventure, we will gladly arrange an
alternative tour date and time. Should this date not fit in with your travel
plans, you will receive 100% refund from us.
As
mentioned previously, the best time for shark safaris in South Africa are the
winter months (June, July and August). Should you be planning on booking your
shark adventure over this period, you may very well get the opportunity of
seeing whales. The best place for whale watching is Hermanus, which lies about
50km from our diving school in Gansbaai. Here you can marvel first hand at
these gentle giants of sea from an elevated rocky shore.
Experience
the world’s largest predatory fish with us – the Great White shark. Encountering
this majestic sea creature through the magic of cage diving is one of the most unforgettable
experiences to be a part of on a holiday in the Cape of Good Hope. When it
comes to transport, you have the option of either finding your own way to the
tour destination, or making use of our shuttle service to and from your
accommodation. For holiday makers with little time at hand, we offer helicopter
scenic flights combined with shark cage diving. We will also gladly compile a
gift voucher for your friends and loved ones.
